The trend of racing electronics has certainly
mirrored that of more common consumer electronics like computers, DVD
players and cell phones—greater availability at lower prices. The
newest digital racing gauge on the market is definitely no exception.
At the most basic level, the unit functions as a tachometer and water
temperature gauge capable of delivering both a numeric and graphical
display that registers up to 19,900 RPMs. It also provides a numerical
output of water temperature. The display is bold and backlit, making
it ideal for use in poorly lit environments. The unit goes a step
further providing a max RPM feature that stores the highest RPM
reached during an ontrack session. Additionally the unit has two
programmable alert lights that flash when they reach the user defined
threshold. One light can be utilized to alert the driver when a
certain RPM is reached and the other light can be utilized to alert
the driver when a certain temperature is reached. |

While there are products
readily available that provide much more data and the ability to log
that data for analysis on a laptop at a later point, they are several
hundred dollars more expensive than this unit’s targeted MSRP of $120.
The unit is targeted for release by Speed Partz in Mid April.
"We offer the entire
AIM/MyChron family of data acquisition systems which are great
products, but for some folks they are over kill. If a driver
just wants a basic tachometer and water temperature gauge with the
ability to go back and see what the high RPM was during the session--I
think they will really like the functionality and price of this little
unit", commented Larry Fasse of Speed Partz. |
