Winter Time Fun - Beating the Doldrums

Most of the crew...at least the ones that would own up to being there.

Now that the cold weather has set in its hard to get your racing fix.  Just before Christmas we made our way over to Competition Racing just behind the pits at Lawrenceburg Speedway.  Those driving in the outing included T.J. Heil, Beau Stewart, Gina Lowe, Rod Henning, Hud Horton, Dennis Stewart, Sami Fasse, Scott Fasse and Terry Fasse.

Everyone ran at least two sessions, while some ran as many as four.  The black flag was shown several times for on-track incidents and a few drivers found themselves spending time in the penalty box.  Much like any trip to the amusement park go-kart track, there was a lot of whining about who got the best kart.  T.J. Heil and Beau Stewart proved that racing is a contact sport and showed no mercy on any of the other drivers regardless of gender or age.

If you've never been to Competition Karting or one of the indoor tracks, you should go check it out.  They have a short indoor road course (left and right hand turns) on concrete.  The course is rather tight so you have to slide the karts a bit to get them through the corners.  However, the karts don't have much so you don't want to slide them too much.  After each session every driver is given a printed sheet that compares all of their lap times to everyone in their session and for the entire day.

It was a lot of fun to hang out with our racing buddies.  Everyone is already intent on planning another trip to the track.  Watch the Blog at www.minisprintracer.com for an upcoming date.

2009 A.M.S.A. Mini Sprint Champion Beau Stewart's dad Dennis put on the helmet.

M.M.S.A. Ace Gina Lowe has gotten rusty over the winter months and couldn't remember which way the zipper on her driver suit went.

I would hide my eyes too if I was seen with those two.
