Weekend Wrap-Up June 5th &6th

Harvey 2 out of 2 in AMSA features at
Lawrenceburg!
6-06-09
Don Harvey traveled all the way from New York
this weekend to race at the high banked Lawrenceburg Speedway to race
alongside the World of Outlaws. He wouldn’t leave disappointed as he swept
the weekend features at The Burg.
22 AMSA mini-sprints were set to do battle in
the 20 lap feature event. Scott Fasse started from the pole and took the
lead hoping to win for the second time in his AMSA career. The race was
competitive as Ryan Braughton also took a turn running up front. While the
leaders were battling, Don Harvey was patiently working his way through the
field, and took the lead on lap 13, but the caution came out, and Harvey was
placed back in second for the restart. When the green flew again, Harvey
wasted no time moving around Braughton to take the lead on lap 14 and ran
away with the win. Braughton finished second followed by Fasse, Beau
Stewart, and Jeff Barnhart.
Heat race winners were Harvey, Barnhart, and
Braughton.
The AMSA mini-sprints return to Lawrenceburg on
Saturday June 13.

The 600cc winged mini-sprints
had a 17 car field to race for their share of tonights purse. Rod Henning is
a weekly competitor at Waynesfield with his mini-sprint. Henning has won a
feature race in the past but that has been a few years ago. The young man's
crew has recently made some changes to his car and that would help return
him to victory lane tonight. Henning quickly made his way to the front and
left the other mini-sprint drivers in his dust to fight for 2nd. He drove
his way thru the lapped traffic like a professional and seemed to extend his
lead as the race went on. Front row started Gary Loney was able to hold off
last weeks winner Devon Dobie to finish in 2nd place. Henning and Loney
claimed the heat race wins for the mini-sprints earlier in the night.

Ambrose
Picks Up Third MMSA Win
Twin Cities
Raceway Park, North Vernon, IN. Saturday Night, June 6, 2009
Seventeen mini sprint drivers showed up for the 1000cc Midwest Mini Sprint
Association's race at Twin Cities. The night was warm and the track was
dry. As usual, promoter, Mason Fleetwood, and his staff did an excellent
job of preparing the track and keeping the racing on schedule.
Heat One had nine cars entered and Heat Two had eight cars. All 17 cars
transferred to the "A" Main so there was no "B" Main. The MMSA purse is
based on car count. 20 cars or over pays $1000 to win. Under 20 cars, the
payout is $600 to win. All features pay $100 to start, $50 to the Hard
Charger, and $50 to the top finishing 600cc car. All cars not making the
start of the "A" Main receive at least $40 if they started their heat race.

The feature race was full of excitement. Steve Bradley #68, father of Andy
and Scott, took another hard crash on the second lap of the feature. Last
week, Steve totaled out a car and tonight he bent the frame and broke the
front axle on the family backup car. This wreck also took out #9C, Zack
Clark. On lap 15, Andy Bradley #8, had an oil cooler line come loose which
caused a huge oil fire as he was attempting to pass his brother, Scott, #4
for second place. Once Andy got the car stopped in turn 3, he bailed out.
The fire went out without further damage to the car but Any was out of the
race. Lynsey Tilton #37 put on another sensational drive to earn the $50
Hard Charger Award. Lynsey started in 17th position and finished 6th. Gine
Lowe, who started 8th in her #3 car, drove all the way up to the third
spot. Gina finished 4th as young Nathan Mensendick #67 passed her to get
third.
