JEFF BARNHART TAKES MMSA VICTORY AT 35 RACEWAY

The Midwest Mini sprint Association rolled into 35 raceway on Saturday night 5/17. A week of rain in southern Ohio made for a great racing surface that produced some wicked fast lap times on the 1/5 mile Bull ring. Fist off for the evening were three heat races with Ryan Broughton taking the win in heat one, heat two was won by Jeff Barnhart and Drew Pollock took the checkers in heat three. Next on the card was A six car fast dash to determine the first three rows of the A main, Jeff Barnhart earned the pole with an impressive victory, he was followed to the line by Andy Bradley.
The 25 lap A main got underway with Barnhart getting the jump on Bradley with Bill Kilgore in tow. The action came to a halt on lap 3 for a flipping Justin Roberts on lap 3, Roberts was uninjured but unable to continue. When racing resumed Barnhart would get a good jump and Kilgore would overhaul Bradley and on the next lap 5th starting Ryan Broughton Would take 3rd from Bradley. With Barnhart pulling to a good lead Broughton over took Kilgore and set his sights on the leader A lap 15 caution would bunch the field for a ten lap dash to the checkers. On the restart Broughton would pull beside Barnhart in turn one but Barnhart got a good drive off of the cushion and keep his lead as Bradley got around Kilgore for third. Lap 17 saw the Red displayed again when Beau Stewart and Scott Bradley tangled in turn 1 with Bradley taking a nasty flip he was uninjured but done for the evening Stewart was able to continue. When the green was waved again Barnhart and Broughton would take off from the field they were running a groove just inches from the wall with no room for error for the last eight laps they would distance themselves from the field with Barnhart taking the victory becoming the first repeat winner of the season in the MMSA, he was followed by Broughton, Andy Bradley and Kilgore, coming home fifth with his best performance of the season was Rickey Taylor.
Next Friday night 5/23 the MMSA returns to Molor Raceway for its second visit of the season.
