Tracks Announce “King of the Bullring” 600cc Upright Mini Sprint Series

Race Director Tom Wieck recently announced that he has reached an agreement with 35 Raceway’s Tony Boetcher that will result in the creation of a series of races for 600cc upright mini sprints that will be contested between 35 Raceway Park’s 1/5th mile and Moler Raceway Park’s 1/4th mile dirt bull rings.  The series will include the first 600cc Upright Mini Sprint Nationals which will be run September 7th and 8th at Moler Raceway Park.  Throughout the season a total of 12 races will be run between the two facilities ending in the crowning of a “King of the Bullring” champion.

Wieck commented, “I’ve always believed in the upright mini sprints as an excellent training ground for tomorrow’s open wheel stars, as well as the weekend warrior.  During my time at Lawrenceburg Speedway we helped the 1200cc mini sprints achieve record car counts.  I have a great respect for what Tony (Boetcher) has done at 35 Raceway and look forward to helping the 600cc upright mini sprint community enjoy growth and continued success.”  Wieck will be the Race Director at Kevin and Kim Moler’s new Moler Raceway Park--a ¼ mile dirt oval located just outside of Williamsburg, Ohio which is North East of Cincinnati, Ohio.

Promoter Tony Boetcher commented, “I think Tom’s idea for a 600cc series will be a real positive for the entire 600cc upright mini sprint community.  The class has been a staple at our facility for many, many years and has spread to additional tracks throughout the Ohio and Indiana area.  The series should allow racers in this fun, affordable class of racing to enjoy a little of the open wheel spotlight.”  Boetcher’s 35 Raceway is widely held as the original home of 600cc upright mini sprint racing with a history that dates back to somewhere around 1988.  Upright 600cc mini sprint racing at 35 Raceway has produced strong car counts and close wheel-to-wheel action for many years now.

The King of the Bullring Series promises to deliver more than just exposure for its competitors.  “I think we’ve put together purses and a series championship points package that 600cc competitors will like”, commented Wieck. “The Nationals will pay $500 to win the first night and $750 to win the second.  Additionally, their will be a brand new FOZ Race Cars chassis that the top ten drivers in the series points will be eligible to win through a drawing at Moler’s year end banquet.  The package has also been sweetened through the involvement of Larry Bland's TP Wings who will also be a series contributor.

Larry Fasse of Speed Partz, commented, “We are honored and pleased that Speed Partz and FOZ chassis were asked to be a part of this series.  We got our start in the 600cc mini sprints at 35 Raceway and appreciate the opportunity to be involved.”

The series will utilize 35 Raceway rules with the exception of allowing a different muffler to be run at Moler Raceway and either tires spedified in the 35 Raceway rules or the American Racer SD38.  For more information contact Moler Raceway Park at 937-444-6215 (www.molerracewaypark.com) or 35 Raceway Park at 740.998.2179 (www.35raceway.com) .
